H.L. PÈNITENCE ONIRIQUE is currently the most exciting black metal horde from France. They attack relentlessly with sharp guitars and angry singing, but add enough atmosphere and changes in pace to turn "Nature Morte" into a very dynamic and overwhelming experience. "Les Mammonites", "Nature Morte" or "Pharmakos" are powerful like an ice storm, but they keep the best for last: "Les Indifferencies" is an outstanding, epic monster track for the ages. Full of tension,dramatic and creeping like lava. Favorite track: Les Indifferencies.

Ippocalyptica I find it almost impossible that this is the same band that released Vestige in 2019, as Nature Morte is as far beyond that release in every respect as, for instance, Schizophrenia was over Morbid Visions. Every song here is fully-realised melodic black metal, with a grand cinematic scope but none of the excess that often plagues French BM of this style. Elegant when it needs to be and aggressive almost always, the understated complexity of the album is what speaks loudest. Félicitations! Favorite track: Pharmakos.

The concept of this new album is a fictionalised interpretation of René Girard's work on mimetic desire, the scapegoat and ritual sacrifice. The album is more radical and to the point in all the foundations laid by the band in previous albums. It is more violent, faster, more complex, and a sign of evolution for the band, who refuse to stagnate.
